There are crevices and elevations all over the tongue, and the bacteria will hide in these areas unless it is removed. The build-up on the tongue is a biofilm, or a group of microorganisms, that stick together on the surface of the tongue. It is difficult to remove this biofilm using mouth rinses alone.Tongue cleaning can be done either with a toothbrush or a tongue scraper in a side-to-side and back & forth motion followed by rinsing your mouth.Be careful not to overbrush.Cleaning your tongue once or twice a day may help you reduce bad breath and the risk of cavities as well as contribute to a clean-mouth feeling. If bad breath still persists, consult your dentist.
Here are some important tips to keep your tongue clean
- Choose a soft toothbrush
- Stick out your tongue as far as possible

- Spit out any saliva that has accumulated in the mouth
- Rinse out your toothbrush every time you brush
